Humans and pigs have a curious love/hate relationship. Pigs in some cultures are despised as "filthy animals" and in other cultures eaten by the millions. At the same time, humans and pigs have much in common. Pigs are among the smartest animals on earth. Biologically pigs and humans are so alike that live tissue, and at some point perhaps whole organs, can be transplanted from one to the other. According to the legends of some South Sea cultures, pigs were created so that humans wouldn't have to eat other humans ('long pigs').
